Make a Small Commitment and Get Big Results in 2016

Make a small commitment in 2016 to get big results!

The New Year is a funny thing. I think we all instinctively want a fresh start each year, to improve upon our missteps of the previous year and to finally live the life we’ve dreamed of living. But that enthusiasm quickly wanes, if not completely disappears, by the time February rolls around. So here’s a proposition: make one small resolution the right one and commit to it with everything you’ve got, and you’ll see your life change (with big results) in 2016. But what’s the right resolution?

Commit to One Massage a Month in 2016

This proposition may come as no surprise to you, seeing as I’m a massage therapist. But I can’t stress enough the transformative effects that regular massage has upon your mental, physical and emotional well-being. I would like to come out and say that women especially (not to exclude men) need to focus on taking care of themselves, for both pampering and wellness. So, when you think about it, when you commit to getting a regular massage, you’re actually committing to improving your health.

Why You Need Regular Massage Sessions

A monthly massage might sound unreasonable to you. You probably think that massage therapy is a luxury that must be reserved for special occasions. But I have to respectfully disagree. A growing body of research proves what I’ve witnessed time and time again in my clients: regular massage therapy treats almost everything from migraines to depression to anorexia to digestive disorders. And by effectively reducing deadly cortisol levels (caused by stress), massage can be seen as a preventative treatment as well as a means of making you happier and more relaxed in the present. What’s not to need about that?

How to Stick to It

If you pick a particular day of the month now (like the second Wednesday of each month, for example) and put it on your calendar, you will do it. Talk to your therapist about needing to have that set in stone so you will actually do it. For instance, I have several clients with regular session times and I mark those times off for a full year ahead. The key to sticking to your resolution is not to get romantic about the idea of doing something beneficial for yourself. You have to make it a reality. And I can promise you that a monthly massage is something you will look forward to every month.

Happy New Years, everyone!
